Yaa Naa’s funeral: Vehicles entering Yendi to be thoroughly searched

As part of the new measures, vehicles entering and leaving Yendi will be thoroughly searched to ensure guns are not brought into the town.

The new security measures follow a meeting between the top hierarchy of security capos and the Andani Royal family.

The security capos include the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Appeatu; the Chief of Defense Staff, Lt. Col. Obed Akwa; Major General William Ayamdoh, Chief of Army Staff; Col. Michael Amoah-Ayisi, Deputy Director-General, Joint Operations, General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces; Col. Isaac Amponsah of the Armed Forces; Lt. Col. Ansah Akofi from the Army Headquarters and Forces Sergeant Major, CWO Barker Ramus.

“We want to assure the Elders of the Andanis that we are going to assist them so that they can have this funeral in an atmosphere of security, Northern Regional Police PRO, ASP Yusif Tanko said.

He continued: “We are going to increase our numbers at the barriers and we are going to search the vehicles as they come in and go out.

“We are also going to search suspicious persons to make sure they don’t come in with ammunition….

“The funeral is coming off tomorrow, and we are going to do everything possible to ensure that the necessary protection is given.”

The performance of the funeral of Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II was temporarily suspended following gun violence on Thursday and Friday.


Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II’s funeral to continue despite disturbances- Otumfuo led committee

A statement released by the Committee of Eminent Chiefs on Saturday said the funeral will go on as scheduled.

The statement, which was issued by Otunfuo’s Chief of Staff, also asked the Northern Regional Security Council to provide maximum security for the performance of the funeral.
